Dale H. Schmelter, 95

Dale H. Schmelter, 95, of Antigo, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Lutheran Home – Tarfa Terrace, in Fond du Lac. He was born on August 16, 1924, in Watertown, the son of Ervin and Martha (Gravenow) Schmelter.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as military police and on the rifle honor squad.

On November 24, 1946, he married Lavonne Guiles, in Seattle, Washington. She preceded him in death in July 12, 2016.

Dale was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Antigo.

He worked for Duffek Sand and Gravel as a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 139 for over 50 years, and the Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion Post #3, Antigo.

Some of his favorite hobbies and passtimes included: deer hunting, snowmobiling, daily crossword puzzles, watching TV game shows and westerns.

He is survived by four children: Arlene Danielson of Fond du Lac, Dale (Sally) Schmelter, Jr., of Grand Haven, Michigan, Gary (Maria) Schmelter, of Austin, Texas, and Joseph Schmelter of Wausau; four grandchildren: Michael (Sheri) Danielson, Peter (Molly) Danielson, Jason Schmelter and Kristopher Schmelter; four great-grandchildren: Adan Schmelter, Grace, Kate and Sam Danielson. Dale is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son-in-law, Nate Danielson; four brothers, Clarence, Ervin, Arno “Sonny” and Earl “Lindy”; and four sisters, Louise Schlorff, Esther Wendt, Irene Zaitz and Emma Wilkins.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday November 2, 2019 at the Bradley Funeral Home with Reverend David Karolus officiating. Burial of cremains will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Mattoon.

Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.
