Wannetta Jean Messer, 59
Wannetta Jean Messer, of Antigo, died Friday, October 4, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was 59 years old.
She was born November 6, 1959 in Rockford, IL to George Schuhmacher and the late Beverly (Lester) Schuhmacher.
Wannetta grew up on a farm in Illinois, and moved to the White Lake area with her family in her teenage years. She graduated from White Lake High School in 1978. On February 2, 1980, she was united in marriage to John Messer at Four Corners Assembly of God Church in White Lake. The Messers resided in Southeastern Wisconsin before returning to Langlade County.
She was a seamstress and upholsterer, owning and operating Leatherworks. She also worked at Sport Line, Lake Geneva Luxury Vans, as a substitute teacher, and as a certified nursing assistant at Eastview and Langlade Hospital.
Wannetta volunteered her time as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with her animals, and seasonal decorating. She was an excellent cook.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Chairitty (Dale) Smith of Antigo; her granddaughter, Chainttily Mary “Lyea” Gabriel; her father, George Schuhmacher of Antigo; 2 sisters, Brenda (Patrick) Mosher of Antigo, and Bridgette (Jason) Boehm of Wausau; 2 brothers, Pedro (Mary) Schuhmacher of Polar, and Blake (Tina) Schuhmacher of Antigo; 2 stepbrothers Terry (Adrian) Richardson, and Bobby Steagall; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Schuhmacher; her stepmother, Dolly Schuhmacher; a sister, Jeannette Schuhmacher; a niece, Charlie Schuhmacher; and a great-niece, Leona Niles.
A funeral service will take place at noon on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Four Corners Assembly of God Church in White Lake with Rev. Marvin Kindle officiating. Visitation will be 10:00-12:00 Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow the service at Elton Cemetery.
