Robert Kakes, 84

Robert Kakes,of Antigo, died Monday, November 4, 2019, at Care Partners in Weston. He was 84 years old. He was born on July 18, 1935, in Bryant, a son of Joseph and Mary (Stasek) Kakes. He married Ethelreda Gundrum on September 17, 1960, at St. John Catholic Church in Rubicon. She survives.

He was a graduate of Antigo High School in 1954.

He served in the United States Air Force from June 1954 to December 1957.

Following military service Mr. Kakes held several jobs while living in Rubicon including 14 years at International Stamping of Hartford, a muffler stamping company. He returned to Antigo in 1974 where he was employed by several manufacturers including Zelazoski Wood Products for 25 years retiring in 2003.

He was a member of SS. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo.

Survivors include two daughters, Doreen Kakes of Antigo, Deann (James) Shelbrack of Schofield; a son, Steven (Julie) Kakes of Austin, Minnesota; five grandchildren Ashley (Miguel) Morga, Alicia (Jon) Cervenka, Janessa (Steven) Cronin, Jeremiah and Joshuah Kakes; three great-grandchildren Madison, Emilee and Abigail.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, Evelyn Turznick, Edna Curtis, Betty Lindner, Alice Neurer, Lillian Kakes, Carol Pelman; two brothers, Eugene and Melvin Kakes.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. Mathew Simonar officiating. Antigo Veterans will conduct military honors at church following services.

Entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park, in Brookfield.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday also at the funeral home.
