Eleanor J. Hegewald, 99

Eleanor Hegewald, 99, formerly of Birnamwood, died on Monday, April 13, 2020 in Tigerton at the home of her daughter.

She was born on December 1, 1920 in the township of Elderon, the daughter of Lee and Veronica (Nicklaski) Bricko.

In 1940 she was united in marriage to Alfred Hegewald in Birnamwood. After marriage, the couple lived Manitowoc where she worked in the tinsel factory.

In 1949, the family moved to Birnamwood where she worked at Chet & Emil’s serving many wedding meals throughout the years. She also installed wallpaper, painted and cleaned for people in the area. Eleanor enjoyed selling Avon for many years and cleaned the church for 21 years.

She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, polka music, dancing and the occasional road trips. She especially enjoyed her family around her. Eleanor was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood and it’s Christian Mothers for many years.

Eleanor is survived by two daughters and one son, Donna (Duke) Karschney of Tigerton, Betty (Jack) Suwyn of Elderon and Roger (Judi) Hegewald of Birnamwood; a sister, Diane (Norbert) Swiechowski; a brother, Vernon (Nancy) Bricko; a sister-in-law, Ada Siegharter; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter Janet Breitrick; a great-grandson, Anthony Suwyn; five sisters, Florence Bamke, Anna Mae King, Josephine Balthazor, June Bricko and Audrey Habeck and two brothers, Kenneth Bricko and Lee Bricko Jr.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood. Fr. Vincente Llagas will preside. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
