Jane Lorraine Meyer, mother, baker, and friend to all, went home to her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family and under the loving care and kindness of LeRoyer Hospice on Friday, May 15, 2020. She was 96 years old.

A lifelong resident of the Town of Norwood, she was born at home on July 26, 1923, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (McCann) Winnega. She married Bernard Meyer on January 2, 1943 in the Village of Mattoon, Shawano County. He preceded Jane in death on May 1, 1985.

Mrs. Meyer graduated from Antigo High School in 1941. She enjoyed annual reunions, even in recent years, where she brought her homemade fudge to share with her classmates.

In her earlier years, she picked potatoes on the Tony Mendl farm, and later operated a dairy farm with her family. She was a lifelong member of the Ladies Aid at St. John Lutheran Church, Mattoon.

Jane and Bernie had many fun seasons of snowmobiling on their Arctic Cat sled, usually joined by a large group of neighbors, friends, and family.

She enjoyed painting ceramics, playing cards, shaking dice, trips to the casino, listening to country and polka music, and watching the Brewers and WWE Wrestling. She was an excellent baker, especially remembered for her Windbag Cake, bread, buns and cinnamon rolls.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Pamela) Meyer of Amherst, James (Elizabeth) Meyer of Antigo, and Dianne (Eugene) Morrissey of Antigo; a daughter-in-law, Christine (Thomas) Meyer of Rothschild; 16 grandchildren, Darin (Sherry) Meyer of Wisconsin Rapids, Karin (Steve) Burger of South Pasadena, CA, Dr. Gina (Kelly) Koch of Waupaca, Charles M. Brown (Kim) of Amherst, Maria (Todd) Jacobson of Appleton, Eric (Katie) Meyer of McFarland, Adam (Sarah) Meyer of Green Bay, Megan (Josh) Bonnell of La Crosse, Joseph Meyer (Shannon) of Minocqua, Andrea (Nick) Artus of Wausau, Sara Morrissey (Brad) of Minneapolis, MN, Stacy (Bruce) Kurszewski of Rothschild, Scott (Dani) Meyer of Antigo, Shane Meyer of Rothschild, Jamie Schiro of Rothschild, and Erin Meyer of Rothschild; numerous great, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Gary and Thomas Meyer; 3 sisters, Evelyn (Mike) Noskowiak, Margaret “Peg” Winnega and Fern (Arthur) Michael; and her twin brother, Jack (Elsie) Winnega.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 23 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mattoon, with Rev. Dean Bertsch officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, May 22 at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, and Saturday 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Mattoon. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.

Friends and family attending the visitation or service are asked to maintain a social distance of 6 feet from others, and follow instructions regarding forming lines and seating. Attendance may need to be monitored and limited, so we request patience in following guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
