Wisconsin Supreme Court Overturns Governor’s Safer at Home Order

FROM THE LANGLADE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

On May 13th, the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned the Governor’s Safer at Home order. This ruling effectively allows businesses to reopen without restrictions. While the order may have been overturned, the COVID-19 virus will undoubtedly continue to circulate and impact people’s lives across the state and nation. I would like citizens of Langlade County to know that Health Department staff will continue to be vigilant in monitoring and tracking the virus, educating the public, and providing best practice guidelines for business owners and the general public to help prevent the spread of the virus.

We ask that the community be smart and continue to practice the guidance that has been shared over the past two months. Maintain social distancing, avoid large gatherings, and use good hygiene practices such as hand washing. Do not go to work, the store, or anywhere else when you feel sick. Consider wearing a face mask when out in public. Individuals who are immunocompromised continue to be at a higher risk and should stay home if possible. If you feel sick, contact your healthcare provider.

Further guidance on prevention can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html

With businesses now reopening, business owners will now play a significant role in protecting customers and staff. Local, state, and national resources are available to help businesses adapt best practices. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has created guidelines to help answer business owner questions regarding best practices. The guidelines can be found at: https://wedc.org/reopen-guidelines/.  Note that it is the business owner’s responsibility to make sure that any state and local licenses that are held are valid at the time the business is reopened. Additionally, confirm that your insurance coverage, i.e. liability, fire, etc., will be valid and if your policy includes protection against virus claims.

For more information on best practices for businesses, contact: Langlade County Economic Development Corporation at: 715-623-5123 or visit:  https://langladecountyedc.org

For more information about COVID-19, contact the Langlade County Health Department at 715-627-6250 or visit: https://www.co.langlade.wi.us/

Stay smart and stay healthy.
