Allen J. Benishek, 84

Posted

Allen J. Benishek, of Antigo, entered his heavenly home surrounded by family on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at home after a courageous battle with emphysema. He was 84 years old. He was born on March 6, 1935, in Antigo, a son of Edward and Anne (Runstik) Benishek. He married Joan Smith on May 30, 1955, at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo. She survives.

He valued his family, so he often worked several jobs to support them which allowed his wife to be a stay at home mom. In his later years, until retirement, he worked as an over the road truck driver.

His hobbies included fishing, gardening - especially fruit trees and berries, playing scrabble and slots, reading, visiting and driving. Allen loved to fix things, crack jokes, tell riddles to make you think, and teach people something he had learned. He preferred to use his knowledge to heal naturally so to avoid seeing a doctor. He enjoyed his sweets, coffee with family, and his beloved pets.

Survivors including his wife are two daughters, Laurie (Howard) Hottenstein, Antigo, Faye (Steven) Daniels, France; three sons, Roy (Gaby) Benishek, Rhinelander, Roger (Cindy) Benishek, Antigo, James (Karen) Benishek, Shawano; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; many step-grand children and step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Schalmo of Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Four Corners Assembly of God Church, White Lake with Rev. Marvin Kindle officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Bradley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family offers a special thank you to LeRoyer Hospice for their compassionate care for Al and his family. You touched all of our lives in so many ways and were instrumental in the peace that we all feel now in his passing. He was so grateful for all you did, and so are we.
