The Antigo bats came to swing up in Eagle River on Tuesday night, walloping the Northland Pines Eagles 20-0 in Great Northern Conference play.

Cody Urban picked up the win for Antigo, throwing 60 pitches in four innings of work. Urban allowed just three hits and one walk in his time on the mound, striking out three Pines batters. Matt Arndt pitched one inning of relief, walking two batters in the fifth as the Robin defense closed out the big win.

“Cody Urban did a nice job getting ahead of hitters and getting them out,” said Coach Scott Farmer. “Hunter Kirsch and Brett Wilhelm had some nice plays at third base for us today as well.”

Matt Winter was 4-5 from the plate, including a double and a remarkable four RBIs. Brady Tatro, AJ Kirsch, Hunter Kirsch, Garret Held, Jesse Jankowski, and Collin Meinert all finished 2-3 on the day as the Red Robins mustered their 20 runs on just as many hits.

“I cannot say enough about how we looked at the plate,” Coach Farmer acknowledged. “We really hit the ball hard and did a nice job taking some pitches the other way and really made it tough for them to field what we put in play. The home plate umpire did make a comment to me that our team did a really nice job of hitting some very good pitches.”

Antigo scored at least three runs in each of the five innings played, including a seven-run third inning and a six-run fourth.

The Robins enter one of their most crucial points of their schedule this week with a game at Medford tomorrow evening (5 PM) and a weekend tournament in Marshfield this Friday and Saturday. Conference play wraps up next week against Rhinelander (Tuesday, 5 PM) and at Mosinee (Thursday at 5 PM).

“In the next couple days comes our biggest test of this season so far. Going to Medford as they just beat Rhinelander 1-0 and then going to Marshfield to face some tough competition this weekend. Four big games will really help us see where we are going in to the final stretch of our conference season,” Farmer added.
