Antigo Bowlers Have Successful Weekend

Sunday, February 22 at Weston Lanes, the District 9 Championships were held.

For the second year in a row, the Antigo Varsity Girls team took 1st place for the Division 2 Girls qualifying them to advance to State. The Antigo Varsity Boys team took 2nd place for the Division 2 Co-ed also qualifying them to advance to State. The teams bowled 15 baker games on a difficult Kegel Challenge Series sports shot, changing lanes every game.

Head Girls Varsity Coach Bill McFarlane’s said “The girls did a great job on a very tough shot. We were able to get off to a very fast start and get a big lead. The girls kept up their energy and focus throughout and we were able to win. We were just looking for a chance to get back to state and win it this year after taking second at state last year. This is a very good team that rallies around each other. They all get along very well and it shows in our competitions.”

The Girls had a total pin fall of 2546 for a 169 per game average with a high game of 253. The team consists of Senior Rebecca Duchac, Juniors Zoe Orgeman and Hailey Robinson, Sophomores Allivia Zoern and Theresa Webb, Freshmen Molly Fermanich and Riley Kreager.

Head Boys Varsity Coach Trevor McCarthy’s said “Even though it was a tough shot at Sundays district finals the Antigo boys varsity team secured a spot in the state bowling tournament in Madison. Antigo took second place averaging 188 over 15 games. The boys continued to rally around one another and perform at a high level all year, finishing the season with the district 9’s highest average of 194. Nick Arrowood also secured a spot in the boys singles tournament finishing second in the district. I’m so proud to be a part of this bowling team, it has been such a pleasure to watch the kids continue to compete at such a high level year after year. I feel very confident about our chances this year at State with the talent we have.”

The Boys Varsity team consists of Seniors Nick Arrowood and James Gervais, Junior Ryan McCarthy, Sophomore Collin Schedlbauer and Freshman Chris Arrowood and Mike Zabrowski.

Heading to State in the Singles division will be Seniors Nick Arrowood and Rebecca Duchac. Out of 100 boys in District 9, Nick Arrowood was 2nd for the season with 90.9% fill rate. Out of 58 girls, Rebecca Duchac was 6th with an 80.3% fill rate. (Fill rates are calculated by dividing the total number of spares and strikes by the total number of frames bowled.) Other top 20 singles finishers were Chris Arrowood – 14th, Collin Schedlbauer – 16th, for the girls, Allivia Zoern – 15th, Molly Fermanich – 17th and Theresa Webb 18th.

Antigo Middle School Bowlers also competed Sunday at Weston Lanes.

For the 3rd year in a row, the Antigo Boys team are District Champions and advance to the State Championships on Saturday, May 2nd at Weston Lanes. They dominated the competition, averaging 182.5 for 12 baker games on a tough Kegel Sports Shot, 2nd place Iola averaged 161.6 and 3rd place Waupaca 141.3.

For the season the team placed 1st in the District 9 North Division winning 65 out of 72 games and all 8 matches, averaging 182.6. In the individual standings for the season, out of 65 boys in District 9, all team members placed in the top of the pack:

2nd - Kyle Schedlbauer 79 strikes, 49 spares out of 144 frames for a 82.6% fill

3rd - Jared McFarlane 74 strikes, 43 spares out of 144 frames for a 81.3% fill

9th - Will Kubeny 63 strikes, 44 spares out of 144 frames for a 74.3% fill

15th - Toby Dieck 54 strikes, 46 spares out of 144 frames for a 69.4% fill

21st - Jake Fischer 41 strikes, 53 spares out of 144 frames for a 65.3% fill

Antigo Girls team took 3rd place in the girls division. Team members are Lauren Rine, Camree Powell, Olivia Fischer, Ashlea Kreager, Annie Andraschko and Minnie Steger. For the season the girls averaged 130.8, top girls out of 35 in the District:

6th - Ashlea Kreager 41 strikes, 49 spares out of 139 frames for a 64.7% fill

12th - Lauren Rine 29 strikes, 53 spares out of 142 frames for a 57.7% fill

15th - Camree Powell 31 strikes, 48 spares out of 142 frames for a 55.6% fill

Antigo Reserve team took 11th place at District Championships. Team members are Nick Tatro, Josh Jones, Keaton Francl, Kalsin Toth and Chris Spurgeon.

For the season, the team averaged 121.3. Josh Jones lead the team, he was 30th in the District with a 56.9% fill rate.

State singles & team competition will be March 6th - 8th in Madison.
