Sunday was the second of two bowling competitions that determined the teams advancing to State from District 9.
The teams each bowled two 7-game baker matches on Sunday at Weston Lanes with the total pin count from both Sunday and Feb. 4th determining what teams advance to state.
The Boys Varsity team took 2nd place for division 2, earning a berth to State. They had a slow start, averaging 157.4 in the first match, but did very well in the second match with a 186 average.
Starting the day on Sunday, the Girls Varsity was in 2nd place with the Wittenberg Girls, 4 pins behind and Amherst 24 pins behind. Only 2 Girls teams could advance to State. They struggled the first match averaging only 137.8. They did better in the second match with a 164.8 average. Amherst Girls had an excellent day, averaging 178 and took over 2nd place and advanced to State along with 1st place Manawa. Antigo Girls ended up in 4th place.
For Singles State Qualifiers, Kyle Schedlbauer finished 5th for the season with an 81.1% fill rate, earning a berth to State. 10 boys total from District 9 will go to State. He will bowl at Weston Lanes on Friday March 2nd at 4:00. The top 5 boys are also named All-Conference and will bowl on March 10th at the State All-Star Challenge in Madison. Will Kubeny and Nick Marshall just missed the cut, finishing 11th and 12th.
For the Girls Singles, Molly Fermanich finished 4th with a 79.1% fill rate and also advances to State. She was named All-Conference and will compete on March 10th at the State All-Star Challenge.
State Tournament is March 2-4 at Weston Lanes. The boys will bowl at 7:00pm on Friday.
