Antigo High School Students Learn Environmental Skills at Trees For Tomorrow

(Antigo, WI) – Six students from Antigo High School recently traveled to Eagle River, WI for a three day workshop on natural resources management.

At Trees For Tomorrow, a natural resources specialty school, students participated in a variety of field trips and outdoor activities, along with classroom presentations, which demonstrated the value of conservation and modern forest and wildlife management practices.

“One purpose of the trip was to familiarize the students with the northern forest which provides so many benefits like recreation, wildlife habitat, wood products, erosion control and others,” said Mike Werdeo who organized the trip.  While at Trees for Tomorrow, Antigo students were joined by students from Marion High School and participated in activities such as wildlife tracking, habitat studies, GPS skills and radio telemetry.  “Not only did our students acquire an understanding of the many benefits forests provide, but observed how wildlife populations benefit when our forests are managed in a wise way,” Werdeo said.

Those attending from Antigo were students Talik Bussey, Colden Carley, Caleb Kautza, Haley Stickney, Dylan Spencer and Thomas Verzal.     The workshop was partially sponsored by Wisconsin Public Service.
