Antigo Little League Teams Deliver Exciting Performances

Antigo's Little League teams recently delivered a series of exciting games, marked by strong offense, dramatic finishes, and spirited competition on the diamond.

Rays Secure Walk-Off Victory

On Monday, June 17, the Rays clinched a thrilling 10-9 walk-off win against Waukesha Bearings Brewers at Remington Park. The game was tied in the bottom of the fifth when Michael Oelke hit a triple, scoring the winning run. Earlier, the Rays built a six-run lead in the third inning before the Brewers mounted a comeback. The Rays' scoring started in the first, with a Brantely Mattek triple, a Gabriel Hilger single, an R.J. Parliek walk, and a Jacob Voss triple contributing to the early lead. Gabriel Hilger added a double and R.J. Parliek walked, each scoring a run in the second. Jacob Voss earned the win for the Rays , while Brantely Mattek provided two innings of scoreless relief, striking out three. Gabriel Hilger led the Rays with two RBIs and two hits, and R.J. Parliek drew three walks as the team collected 10 walks overall.

Rays Fall in Close Rematch

In a subsequent Monday game, the Rays faced Waukesha Bearings Brewers again, falling 10-9 despite a determined comeback attempt. The Rays overcame a five-run deficit in the first inning. They outhit the Brewers five to two , with Jordy Zupon, Isaac Rogatzki, Brantely Mattek, Gabriel Hilger, and Michael Oelke each collecting a hit. Michael Oelke's double in the second inning drove in two runs, helping the Rays take a 7-6 lead. Jordy and Michael each drove in two runs for the Rays.

Antigo Stallions 11U in High-Scoring Battle

The Antigo Stallions 11U team engaged in a high-scoring contest against Lakeland 11U on Sunday, June 15, ultimately falling 15-12 at Remington Park. Lakeland collected 12 hits to Antigo's eight. The Stallions rallied in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on five hits, with Brian Schultz hitting a two-RBI single to take a 6-5 lead. Brian Schultz started on the mound for Antigo , and Parker Schroeder led the offense with three RBIs and two hits. Jordy Zupon paced the team with three walks, contributing to the Stallions' 10 total walks in the game.

Antigo Stallions 9U Secure Second Championship

The Antigo Stallions 9U team had a championship-winning weekend at Saratoga Park, earning their second first-place finish of the season.

On Sunday, June 15, they started with a solid 7-2 win over Northwoods Next Up. Antigo took an early lead in the first inning with an RBI double from Eddie Brandt, a bases-loaded walk by Peyton Baker, and two runs scoring on an error. Baker earned the win on the mound, striking out four and allowing one hit and one run over two innings. Brandt was dominant in relief, pitching three hitless innings with eight strikeouts and one run allowed. Brandt also led the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, and the team played flawlessly on defense.

In their second game, the Stallions topped Wisconsin Rapids Red 8-4. After Wisconsin Rapids scored first, Antigo responded with six runs in the bottom of the first, with Reggie Zupon's fielder's choice bringing in the go-ahead run. Eddie Brandt's double and Mason Frisch's groundout added two more runs in the second. Griffin Foley earned the win, striking out six over three innings. The team also stole six bases, with Zupon and Peter Caldwell contributing multiple steals.

The Stallions capped off their tournament by defeating DC Everest Green 10-6 in the championship game. After Everest scored first, Antigo answered with five runs in the bottom of the first. Everest tied the game in the third, but Antigo regained the lead with a defensive miscue and another RBI groundout from Griffin Foley. Peyton Baker picked up the win, striking out nine over three innings , with Brandt closing in relief. Foley and Caldwell each drove in two runs, and Brandt continued his strong hitting, going 2-for-3. The Antigo Stallions 9U will host their final tournament of the season in Antigo from July 18–20.

CoVantage Cardinals Little League Majors Face Tough Opponents

The CoVantage Cardinals Little League Majors had a challenging series of games this past week.

On Monday, June 16, they lost a close 12-11 game to Waukesha Bearings Brewers. Will Darr led the Cardinals' offense with an inside-the-park home run and a single, while Oliver VerHagen added a triple and a single. Mav Carter contributed a triple and Barrett Miller a double. Pitching duties were shared by Jude Hoffman (5 K's), Barrett Miller, Darr, and VerHagen (5 combined K's).

On Wednesday, June 18, the Cardinals were defeated 11-7 by Tommys Braves. Jace Parilek led the offensive effort with a triple and a double. Will Darr and Cash Theisen each added a triple and a single. Darr and Theisen combined for six strikeouts on the mound.

Most recently, on Wednesday, June 23, the Braves snagged another win over the Cardinals, 9-8, in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dalton Miller notched two singles, Jude Hoffman hit a triple, and Will Darr, Cash Theisen, Mav Carter, and Chris Zarda each added singles. Jude Hoffman started on the mound with four strikeouts, relieved by Darr and Carter who added three more.
