LANGLADE COUNTY SHERIFF REPORTS
Wednesday, September 26th
7:44 PM Officers responded to a call from a male reporting possible deer poaching on his land on Cty. Rd. W, near Trout Road. He stated that he had given a male subject permission to hunt there. That day, the male was hunting up in a tree stand, when an unknown person on a four wheeler came onto the property. That person did not know that the male subject was there. The unknown person then shot a deer with a gun, with a possible silencer. The male subject felt he was in danger because the person had shot towards him. (He was in between the deer and the shooter.) It was dark when the subject shot the gun. The gun was described as either a 22 caliber or a 17 caliber and it did not have a loud bang. It was believed that the four wheeler left going westbound on Cty. Rd. W. The caller told officers that this person did not have permission to be on his land. The next day, officers went out to the property and saw a heavily traveled four wheeler trail on the west edge of a soybean field leading to a residence. The land owner told officers that he had given the male subject at that residence permission to hunt. Officers then went to the area where gun was fired and found a tree stand and a bait pile approximately 10-15 yards away. A male subject from the nearby residence then approached on a four wheeler. He admitted to officers that it was his tree stand, but denied hunting there the night before. Officers sent the information to the DNR warden. The DNR warden later spoke to the male subject who had the tree stand and he admitted that he had been in the tree stand that night and fired a .45 black powder at a coyote. The DNR was going to handle the illegal baiting issue.
