Antigo Wrestling Club: Comprehensive Tournament & Dual Meet Summary

The Antigo Wrestling Club demonstrated strong performances across collegiate, girls' varsity, and boys' varsity competitions, highlighted by a dominant girls' tournament outing, close conference duals, and a successful home tournament appearance.

Collegiate/Unattached: UWSP Pointer Open (November 1st)

Three individuals competed at the UWSP Pointer Open, primarily a collegiate event:

  • Alexandra Hofrichter (University of Dubuque): Finished 5th Place in the highly competitive 160-pound Gold Division, which featured five top-10 ranked wrestlers.
    • She secured two early pinfall victories, including one in 39 seconds.
    • She lost to the eventual runner-up, Taylor Graveman, by a 16-8 decision in the semifinals.
    • She clinched 5th place by defeating Maryam Ndiaye with a come-from-behind pinfall at 5:50, scoring the final 15 points of the match after trailing 6-0.
  • Olivia Hofrichter (High School): Had a "very impressive showing" against college athletes, securing two pinfall victories.
    • She won her first match by pinfall at 1:41.
    • She lost only to returning All-Americans, including the eventual champion Elleni Johnson, despite landing an impressive feet-to-back takedown against her.
  • Jason Hohensee (Antigo Wrestling Club Board Member): Competed in the 197-pound Gold Bracket for the first time since 2001, losing his two matches by decision (5-2) and technical fall (15-0).

Girls Varsity: Red Robin Girls Invite (December 5th)

The Antigo team hosted the Red Robin Girls Invite, which grew significantly to host 154 wrestlers, affirming its status as one of the best early-season female tournaments in the state.

  • Summer Thunder (132 lbs): Dominated the bracket, securing 1st Place with five pinfall victories, scoring 18 points and conceding zero. She used a variety of techniques, including a body lock for a quick pin in the semifinals and a head inside single to a double leg for the final pin.
  • Olivia Hofrichter (152 lbs): Finished 2nd Place in a bracket featuring three highly ranked wrestlers (including the 2nd and 5th ranked wrestlers at 152 lbs).
    • She won her first four matches by first-period pinfall.
    • She lost the 1st Place Match to Brynlee Vaughn (ranked 2nd) by an 11-6 decision in a close, highly anticipated bout.

Boys Varsity: Dual Meets (December 5th & 11th)

The team split its dual meets, winning a conference contest against Mosinee while narrowly losing to Merrill.

Merrill Dual Meet (38-36 Loss)

Antigo narrowly lost the dual, 38-36. The team was noted for its ability to "take over late in the match."

  • Key Clutch Wins:
    • Logan DesJarlais (113 lbs): Won a dramatic 10-9 decision by scoring the winning 4-nearfall points as time expired.
    • Michael Hofrichter (165 lbs): Won an exciting 15-14 decision by scoring 4-nearfall points as time expired while trailing.
    • Pinfall Victories: Mason Walrath (126), Caleb Stimac (144), Keagan DesJarlais (150), and Jordan Pregler (190).

Mosinee Dual Meet (61-18 Win)

Antigo secured a dominating 61-18 conference win, utilizing six forfeits and strong performances in contested matches.

  • Pinfall Victories: Levi Peterson (215), Nolan Lucht (285), Owen Medo (138), and Keagan DesJarlais (150).
  • Major Decision: Logan Gallenberg (132) won a 19-9 major decision after controlling the match and utilizing a variety of moves, including a whipover and hip over reversal.

Boys Varsity: John Roberts Invite (December 6th)

The Antigo team finished in 6th Place out of 18 teams at their home invitational.

  • Joseph Stimac (157 lbs): Led the team with a 3rd Place finish, including a key 12-8 victory in pool play sealed by a late match-winning 4-point nearfall with a cradle. He defeated teammate Michael Hofrichter for 3rd place.
  • Four 4th Place Finishes: Logan DesJarlais (106), Michael Hofrichter (157), Levi Binversie (175), and Jordan Pregler (190) all finished in 4th place.
  • Other Notables:
    • Levi Peterson (215 lbs): Secured a victory in overtime by countering a double leg for the winning takedown.
    • Logan Gallenberg (132 lbs) and Keagen DesJarlais (150 lbs): Both went 4-1 on the day, finishing in 9th place.
