FOR ANTIGO TIMES
ANTIGO, WI. – Aspirus Langlade Hospital and the Gerald & Dorothy Volm Cancer Center are very excited to announce the introduction of Beautiful You. This program is designed to provide support, skills and products to overcome changes in a patient’s physical appearance to help boost confidence and self-esteem as they receive cancer treatments.
For many years, the Cancer Center staff and community volunteers coordinated the "Look Good, Feel Better" program, which was sponsored and funded by the American Cancer Society. The program taught beauty techniques to people with cancer to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The program included lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetics, wigs and turbans, accessories and styling. In late 2018, the American Cancer Society informed our team that they will no longer be involved in this program.
Thanks to generous contributions from community businesses and individuals as well as support from the Community Health Foundation, the team will continue this tradition of caring through a newly designed in-house program, Beautiful You. The spirit of the original program will continue to be led by the same caring, dedicated team of Cancer Center staff and volunteers.
Donations for this program can be made to the Community Health Foundation, designated specifically for the Cancer Center. Make-up products, brushes, bags, wigs and styling tips are provided to patients at no cost. The program is ready to launch the first part of October. For more information please contact the Volm Cancer Center at 715-623-9587.
