Athena Iris LongTail Goetz, Wiiragušgewįga "Little Star Woman", 60, died Monday, October 2, 2017, at her home in Crandon.
She was born on June 6, 1957 in Wausau, the daughter of the late Phillip Sr. and Vernadine (Smith) Long.
Athena was a 1975 graduate of Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School.
She was united in marriage to Jesse Goetz, He survives.
Athena worked as a seamstress at a clothing manufacturer for many years. She especially enjoyed sewing pow wow regalia and making teepees. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino. Athena attended UW-Stevens Point, studying Computer Science.
Athena is survived by her husband Jesse Goetz; Her friend, Michael Burnett; three children, Corena Mae, Forrest Joseph, and Lucas Christoph; eight grandchildren, Dayvina Lee, Adina Rae, Autry James, Destiny Rain, Emjay Swede, Amyah Sweet, Grace Emerald, and Aaron George; four sisters Nadine, Barbara, Cherylene, and Anna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, Chanina Rae and Adrienne Dawn, two brothers, Nathaniel Long II and Phillip Long Jr, and Elizabeth Ann Long-Smith.
Funeral Sevice will be held at 1PM Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Corenne Roth-Soldier Residence, W19255 Elm Road, Wittenberg. Mr. Kelly Lamere will officiate. Interment will be in the Sox Minak Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday beginning at 3PM at the residence. Schmidt & Schulta funeral Home, Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements.
