Former Langlade County HR Director Raymond "R.J." Weitz committed suicide on Dec. 29 in Portage County after being investigated by authorities of the Marathon County Sheriff's Office for misconduct while employed in Langlade County.
The suicide was confirmed by Portage County Coroner Scott Rifleman on Wednesday evening.
Weitz's death announcement comes just one day after the official last day in office of Sheriff Bill Greening. Greening resigned in late December amidst conflicts with the Langlade County Board of Supervisors, as proclaimed in his response letter to Board Chairman David Solin last week, in which he also expressed his displeasure in the hiring practices and HR operations under Weitz's authority.
The Marathon County Sheriff's Office released a statement earlier on Wednesday morning stating that the Marathon Sheriff's Office's involvement in the HR director's misconduct investigation had concluded and that no further information would be released at that time.
Authorities in Portage County said the investigation into the suicide itself is still ongoing as of Wednesday evening. More information will be provided as soon as possible.
