Charles "Chuck" Stengl, 86

Charles "Chuck" Stengl, of Antigo, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Rosalia Gardens. He was 86 years old. He was born on August 17, 1930 in Antigo, a son of Charles and Theresa (Husnick) Stengl. He married Marilyn Hoerman on April 24, 1954 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2005.

He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1948.

After high school he worked on the family farm for several years then served in the United States Marine Corps as a radio repairman.

He began a long career with the state of Wisconsin Drivers License Examiners beginning in Wausau where he worked from 1955 to 1971. He returned to Antigo where he continued working for the state as driver improvement counselor and team leader until retirement in 1982.

He enjoyed wood carving, playing cribbage, going to the casino, hunting and fishing.

He was a member of SS Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Susan Halser, Palmyra, Rita Loper, Middleton, Catherine Skarlupka, Antigo, Anne (David) Lumby, Northbrook, Illinois; a son, Kenneth (Margaret) Stengl, Schofield; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Gregor, Katie (Jacob) Allen, David Halser, Rebecca (Tim) Cleaver, Alita Loper, Patrick Loper, Michael (Megan) Loper, Tim Stengl, Laura Stengl, Ted (Sabrina) Skarlupka, Stacy (Chris) Orgeman, Simon Lumby, Carissa Lumby; ten great-grandchildren Holly and Zoe Orgeman, Amelia, Charlotte and Lucy Gregor, Hudson and Madison Allen, Olivia Stengl, Tommy and Abby Cleaver; a sister, Theresa Galuska, Antigo.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three sons-in-law, James Skarlupka, Dennis Loper, and William Halser; two sisters, Marquette Welnetz, and Agnes Thomae; a brother, Ray Stengl, and three brother in infancy.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery where Antigo Veterans will conduct military rites.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday also at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
