Chester Messer, 95

Chester Messer, age 95, of Antigo, died Monday, December 18 at Rosalia Gardens.

Chester was born on August 18, 1922 in White Lake to the late Robert and Ida (Boyd) Messer.

He was united in marriage to Irma Williams, she preceded him in death.

He married Ruth Switzer and she also preceded him in death.

Chester worked in road construction, retiring in 1983. He resided in Delavan from 1957 until 1969, at which time he moved to Antigo.

He enjoyed music and began playing the guitar at the age of 8. He played in the Grudgeville Sodbusters, Jim’s Rhythm Mixers and Gospel Starlighters. He also loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Arizona and Washington.

Survivors include a daughter Joan Heller of Elkorn, WI, 2 sons Edward Lee (Rhonda) of Wyoming and Bill (Audrey) of Bryant, a sister Lyda Mae Davis of Antigo, 2 brother Curtis of Antigo and Virgil of Arizona, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Margaret, 2 sons Larry Jr. and Bob Jr., 2 infant daughters, 7 brothers Arlie, Clifford, Estil, Jess, Cletus, Paul, Rufus, a sister Esther.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Reverend Marvin Kindle will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
