David Selmeyer, 70

David Selmeyer, age 70 of Antigo, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 23, 2017 after several years battling cancer. He was born on July 3, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio a son of the late Orville and Alice (Pflueger) Selmeyer. Dave married LuAnn Lemke on June 20, 1971, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau.

Dave graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, he continued his education in Concordia University Ann Arbor and completed is Bachelor's and Master's Degrees at Concordia University Chicago.

Dave was a teacher for 40 years, having first taught at Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely, Missouri for four years. He was then called to Peace Lutheran School in Antigo as teacher in the upper grades and athletic director, serving the last 22 years as a teaching principal. He enjoyed coaching track and field and refereeing basketball. He retired in 2009.

Dave's legacy can be seen in the way he passed on the Christian faith to his children, grandchildren and students.

He was active in many aspects of the ministry of Peace Lutheran Church, including the Men's Club, participating in Bible study, church library and helping create liturgical art. As part of his legacy he helped establish the Luther Conference Room at Peace using materials gathered since traveling to Germany in 1983.

He was on the board of directors for the North Wisconsin District and the Camp Luther Board. For many years he participated in the National Lutheran School Accreditation Program.

Dave enjoyed gardening, golf, travel and swimming at the Clara R. McKenna Aquatic Center.

Survivors include his wife, LuAnn of Antigo; a daughter, Heidi (Shinri) Emoto of Tokyo; grandchildren, Noah and Megumi; a son, DJ (Ranae) Selmeyer of Greeley,Colorado; granddaughters, Madeline and Hannah; a sister, Wanda (David) Allen of Cincinnati, OH; and a brother, Kenneth (Kathy) Selmeyer of Cincinnati, OH.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. David Karolus officiating. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

The family would like to thank the Antigo medical community for their loving care, and the many friends Dave made over the years.
