Fifth Avenue Apartment Fire still under investigation

Shortly before noon on Saturday, February 10, a call came in of a fire in the 600 block of Fifth Avenue in downtown Antigo. Upon the fire department's arrival, they found an upstairs apartment in flames. The fire department was able to get the fire out in less than an hour and prevented the fire from spreading to other areas of the building complex. The fire started in a closet area of the apartment.

Jon Petroskey, Fire Chief for the City of Antigo Fire Department stated that the heavy metal door for the apartment was a huge help in keeping the fire from spreading to other apartments.

Officer Dan Duley of the Antigo Police Department confirmed that the apartment was occupied at the time of the fire. A dog perished in the blaze.

The majority of the fire damage was contained to just one apartment on the west end of the building. Hope Pregnancy, located below the apartment that was on fire, had some water damage to their office. Tenants of the other apartments in the complex were able to return to their apartments Monday, February 12.

Chief Petroskey said that the fire is still under investigation and the cause is still undetermined at this time.
