Gerald R. “Jerry” Kontney, age 85, resident of Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, and formerly of Antigo, Merrill, and Pelican Lake, died January 3, 2015 at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah.
Jerry was born on June 15, 1929 to the late Anthony E. and Irene (Loche) Kontney in Antigo. He graduated from Antigo High School.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Degner on August 24, 1957 in Lindstrom, MN. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2008.
Jerry worked for the Merrill Street Department until his retirement from the department. He and Phyllis then moved to Pelican Lake. After retirement, he continued working for Planning and Zoning in Oneida County as a plumbing inspector.
He was a member of Elcho United Church of Christ.
Jerry served in the 2nd Armored Division of the US Army. He served 2 years in Germany during the Korean War.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Kathy Kontney, Jack (Beverly) Kontney, Jan Smith, Paula (John) Connor, and Chris (Nancy) Kontney, Greg (Joan) Boettcher, Brad (Amy) Boettcher, and Pam (Dan) Dahm; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Harriet Boettcher.
In addition to his wife and parents, a brother Robert preceded him in death.
