Harold R. Beck, 91

Harold Beck died Saturday, December 16, 2017 at The Bay at Eastview. He was 91 years old.

He was born October 24, 1926 in Mattoon, son of the late John and Barbara (Fischer) Beck. He married Caroline Steber on June 2, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Antigo, and she survives.

Mr. Beck graduated from Mattoon High School in 1945, then served in the US Navy. He was employed at the AMPI milk plant, and later worked as a union carpenter.

He was a member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking and building furniture, and especially loved watching Packers games.

In addition to his wife, survivors include 2 daughters, Patti (Jim) Frisch of Antigo, Lori (Randy) Misfeldt of Antigo; a son, Jon Beck of Minneapolis; 3 sisters, Edna Zwirschitz, Jeanne Pecha, Lynne (Arvid) Evansvold; 2 brothers, Norbert “Pete” (Audrey) Beck, and Phil (Margie) Beck; 7 granchildren, Joe (Jenny) Frisch, Beth (Damian) Markusen, Matt (Tracey) Frisch, Chris (Kathy) Frisch, Nick (Stacey) Frisch, Ioana Beck, and Louise Beck; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bernice Kirsch; and 2 brothers, Clem and Sylvester Beck.

A memorial mass will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church, with Fr. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Local veterans will perform military honors following the service. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
