Harvey Fasbender, of Pelican Lake, died Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at home. He was 89 years old. He was born on November 4, 1929, in Ladysmith, a son of Henry and Bessie (Novak) Fasbender. He married Joyce Oldenburg on May 22, 1954, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho. She survives.
He was a graduate of Elcho High School with the class of 1947 as salutorian.
He served in the United States Army from September 1950 to September 1952 having served in Korea.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Consolidated Papers out of Rhinelander for 36 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In retirement he and Joyce traveled to Europe, Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii and Australia.
He was a member National Rifle Association, the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post, 377 Elcho, and St. John Catholic Church at Pelican Lake.
Survivors including his wife Joyce are a daughter, Carla (Tim) Gechas of Juneau; son, Ken (Kitty) Fasbender of Pelican Lake; four grandsons, Julian (Sherrie) Gechas, Eric Gechas, Adrian and Jacob Gechas; three great-grandchildren Kaylee, Myah, and Kaeyden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brother, Harold, and Leo Fasbender, three sisters, Celia Prodel, Beatrice Kalkofen, and Lucille in infancy.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Pelican Lake with Fr. Kevin Farrell officiating. Elcho American Legion Post will conduct military honors following services at the church. Burial will take place in Town of Summit Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at church. A parish wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
