FOR ANTIGO TIMES
At a recent Hyland Lakes Lions club meeting, two members of the club received awards from our Zone Chair and B2 Vice District Governor, Amy Quig from the Pearson Pickerel Lions. Lions International recognizes outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that is named for its founder, Melvin Jones. Bill Olivo received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award is the highest form of recognition a member can receive and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.
Ted Steinert received the Wisconsin Lions Birch-Sturm Fellowship which honors a person who displays dedication and commitment to Lionism. This Fellowship is named after Wisconsin’s only two International Presidents: Frank V. Birch and Clarence L. Sturm. Lions Club International is a service membership organization of over 1.7 million members worldwide.
The Lions motto is “We Serve”. Local Lions Club programs include sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues, measles vaccines, childhood cancer and many other local programs. The LIONS acronym also stands for Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nations’ Safety.
Congratulations to these two deserving individuals!
