IMPORTANT FLOOD REMINDERS FROM LANGLADE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Posted

FOR ANTIGO TIMES

Antigo, WI – Langlade County Emergency Management has issued these important reminders for the public during this period of rain and spring melting.

· If you have water in your basement, do not go into the basement.  There may be unseen electric currents.  Instead call your local water utility or Power Company.

· If you’re driving, avoid standing water.  If you happen to get trapped in water while in your vehicle,  CALL 9-1-1.  Also remember that brakes are not as effective and may even fail after you have driven in water.  Give yourself more stopping time and be alert to other drivers who may not be aware of this.

· If your power is off, keep your freezers and refrigerators closed as much as possible.  The cold temperatures should hold for at least six hours.  Food may begin to spoil after six hours or sooner if the refrigerator has been allowed to warm by such actions as opening it.  If you are not sure if your food is safe, call your local Public Health Department.(715) 627-6250

· If you are not able to move around or leave on your own, contact a neighbor or friend and set up a plan to leave if it becomes necessary or you may call your local Public Health Department at  (715) 627-6250 . If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1.
