With investigations wrapping up this afternoon, both the Antigo Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office have decided to wait to provide further information, including the names of the officers and the suspect involved, regarding shots fired and the ensuing high-speed chase and standoff that saw special response teams take out the assailant in eastern Lincoln County this morning.

Just before 6:30 on Tuesday morning, an officer of the APD made a routine traffic stop in downtown Antigo that resulted in the suspect opening fire on the member of law enforcement. Taking off west on Hwy 64 towards Merrill, leading local law enforcement into high-speed pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle was eventually stopped by a tire deflation device in eastern Lincoln County.

As the nameless suspect’s vehicle was rendered unusable, the male shooter was eventually subdued by law enforcement members belonging to Special Response Teams from the engaged forces after an hour-long standoff this morning.

APD investigators continued to search the area near the Antigo Hotel on 6th Ave and Morse St. until mid-afternoon on Tuesday. After a press release from Chief of Police Eric Roller was issued before noon stating the preliminary encounter between the still-to-be-named officer and suspect, the APD stated that it would most likely not have a press conference regarding the incident yet today.

We will be sure to keep you informed of any information revealed in the immediate future.
