Jean L. Grossman, 92

Jean L. Grossman, of Antigo, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Care Partners in Antigo under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 92 years old. She was born on June 4, 1923 in the town of Vilas, a daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (Kluball) Wetzel. She married George Grossman on July 22, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the town of Summit. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2015.

Mrs. Grossman attended Liberty Bell School in the town of Vilas and graduated from Antigo High School in 1941. She attended Langlade County Normal School and received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

Mrs. Grossman retired in 1985 after 30 years of teaching at various grade schools. The latest school was Spring Valley School in Bryant. She enjoyed her students. She and her husband had a dairy farm and later raised beef cattle.

She is a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook and the Retired Teachers Association.

She enjoyed her flowers and did much canning from their large garden. She played cards in the Kempster and Forest Homemakers Club. She loved to sing with her siblings and family and was in the church choir. She made wonderful meals for her family and guests and greeted people with much love. We were blessed to have her in our lives.

Survivors include daughter, Frances (Elroy) Kleman of Hatley; son, Bruce (Wilma) Grossman of Redgranite; nine grandchildren, Joyel, Bart (Kim), Patty, Joanne (Mark), Katie (Doug), George (Shauna), Tim (Danette), Renae (Ben) and Julie; 12 great grandchildren, Katie (Theo), Nathan, Bryce, Libby, Jacob, Jordan, Brad (Lydia), Sam (Haley), Lili, Lucas, Alex and Calvin; three great-great grandchildren, Madeline, William and Benjamin; three sisters, Fern (Francis) Koch of Sussex, Joyce Kanapka of Merrill, Glenda (Charles) DeLarwell of Oakhurst, CA; a brother, Calvin (Phyllis) Wetzel of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law Maria Wetzel.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Kautza; three sisters, Elaine Beyer, Mildred Schuman and Alice Lee; two brothers, Max Wetzel and Cyril Wetzel; sisters-in-law, Lucille and Mary; brothers-in-law, Cliff, Leonard, Harold and Elmer.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 17 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Rev. Jerome Hahn officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery in Summit Lake. Visitation will be Sunday, April 17 from 11 a.m. until the 1:30 p.m. funeral service.

The family extends a special thank you to Pastor Jerome Hahn, Dr. Myers, Nancy and the staff from LeRoyer Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mom. Thank you to Linda, Cheryl and all the special girls at Care Partners who provided such wonderful care to Mom for over two years. You gave her a great home and we are grateful. Thank you also to our great neighbors and relatives for either bringing food or coming to assist Mom; Jim and Rose Jansen, Paula Lightfoot, Dave Ludens and family, Shirley and Ray Hess, Charles and Jan Wetzel and four guardian angels who came to Mom's assistance when she lived at home.
