Joan Janell Cahak

Joan “Joanie” Janell Cahak passed in peace and with grace on March 3, 2019 with family and loved ones at her side. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, best friend and loving husband DeWayne “Duke” and her first husband, Richard. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Nellie and one of six siblings. She was preceded in death by sisters, Jean and Joyce. A loving mother, she is survived by her daughter, Claudia of Scottsdale, AZ and her son, Rick of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Spencer and Keating and a sister, Ludene and brothers Jim and Jerry.

Joanie was born in Antigo and led a life devoted to her husband, her children and her home. She displayed extraordinary affection for her dogs, especially her Corgis, and was a meticulous homemaker. She loved strawberry milkshakes and a good plain hamburger. She was often seated at her cherished organ, where she regularly displayed her musical talent. She was admired for her exquisite handwriting.

Returning to Antigo, Joanie treasured her neighbors and was blessed with having many family members close by. The transition to Rosalia Gardens gave her the opportunity to be surrounded by old friends and to make new ones. She was happily involved in many activities and social outings. She loved being the center of attention and was always willing and eager to lend a thoughtful ear.

The family is forever grateful and wishes to express heartfelt thanks to her dear friends, Leah and Yogi Antoniewicz, both so incredibly generous with their time and emotional support. Leah, you are an angel. Our gratitude extends to the hours of loving care from her local family; Ludene, Bruce and Betsy, Buzzy and Jeanelle and Todd and Patti. Memory and space do not permit a complete list of proper thanks, but the family deeply appreciates the years of excellent care from Dr. Noel Deep and staff, Hands With Heart (thank you, Jill) and the team from LeRoyer Hospice, especially Liz, not only a consummate professional, but former neighbor... it’s no small task to wear two hats. Last but not least, thank you to the residents and staff of Rosalia Gardens, where love was in abundance.

Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery on Friday, March 8 at 9:30 AM. Immediately following the interment, a Celebration of Life will be held at Rosalia Gardens at 519 Flight Road. Family and friends are welcomed to both. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Langlade County Humane Society, 2204 Clermont St., Antigo, WI 54409; a cause close to Joanie’s heart.
