FOR ANTIGO TIMES
Though closed for the season, the Kast House at Shawano’s Heritage Park, was
the site of extensive activity recently as volunteers packed and moved vintage furniture
and accessories and memorabilia to facilitate much needed repair and restoration.
Shawano County Historical Society’s board of directors are in the early planning
stages of the 150 th anniversary of the single family home built by John Kast in 1871 next
to his planing mill and flour mill on the Shawano Lake Outlet. To get the house ready
for featuring in 2021, flooring, walls, windows, wiring and plumbing need to be retro-
updated.
Board Secretary Aaron Damrau indicated that while “we have identified specific
issues to be addressed we know, as in any home redo, we’re going to discover some
surprises. Difficult to set down a project list and budget at this time. We are asking in
the community if anyone would have some vintage items to donate to enhance the
museum visitors experience, such as: ceiling light fixtures, pantry cupboards, area rug,
and interior and exterior doors.” Individuals with items to donate should contact SCHS
Executive Director Ben Dudzik or Curator Jesse Borlen at the Society’s facility on
Franklin Street.
