FROM THE LANGLADE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Langlade County, WI- Over the past week, Langlade County, like communities across Wisconsin, has continued to see a rise in COVID-19 cases. As of this weekend, Langlade County is now at substantial community transmission, as reported on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID Data Tracker: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view
The CDC and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) recommends that in areas of substantial or high community transmission, everyone (including fully vaccinated individuals) wear a mask in public indoor settings. This is in response to new science and concerns of the Delta variant, which is linked to an increase in COVID-19 cases.
Our goal at the Langlade County Health Department is to reduce everyone’s risk and keep our community members healthy. The best combination to protect ourselves, our families, and our community is to wear a mask in public indoor settings and get vaccinated.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 prevents severe illness, hospitalization and death, and helps reduce the spread of the virus in our community. In addition, high vaccination coverage will help prevent new, and possibly more concerning variants from emerging.
Past infection with COVID-19 does not assure protection from the Delta variant, so individuals who have had past COVID-19 infections are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated.
Infections in fully vaccinated individuals happen in only a small proportion of people, even with the Delta variant. Most people who experience infection after being fully vaccinated report mild or no symptoms. From January 1, 2021 through July 22, 2021, over 98% of cases in Wisconsin occurred among individuals who were not vaccinated.
We encourage our community to stay up to date on the latest guidance, local data and information on where to get a COVID-19 vaccine by visiting the following sites:
