The Marathon County Historical Society (MCHS), in partnership with the Fromm Bros. Historical Preservation Society, will host a special Preservation Month excursion to the historic Fromm Farm on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The event will begin at the Woodson History Center, located at 410 McIndoe Street in Wausau.
This unique experience invites guests to explore one of Marathon County’s most significant historic agricultural sites through a guided tour of the Fromm Farm. Attendees will begin their journey at the Woodson History Center, where they will board bus transportation to the farm. Once there, guests will participate in a guided tour of the property, followed by time to explore outdoor exhibits and enjoy light refreshments from local businesses before returning to the Woodson History Center.
The Fromm Farm represents an important chapter in both local and national history. From its early role in ginseng cultivation to its growth into one of the largest silver fox and mink operations in the United States, the farm stands as a testament to innovation, entrepreneurship, and the many individuals whose work shaped its legacy. This program offers a rare opportunity to experience the site firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of the people and operations behind it.
Two tour times are available to accommodate guests. The first group will depart the Woodson History Center at 10:30 a.m. (with boarding beginning at 10:15 a.m.), and the second group will depart at 12:30 p.m. (with boarding beginning at 12:15 p.m.). Space is limited, and advance reservations are required. Tickets are $40 for Marathon County Historical Society members and $45 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased by phone at (715) 842-5750, online via Ticket Source, or in person at the Woodson History Center.
Proceeds from this event support both the Marathon County Historical Society and Fromm Bros. Historical Preservation Society missions.
