Margaret Menting, 84

Margaret Menting, of Phlox, died Saturday, September 7, 2019 at her home under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 84 years old. She was born on June 12, 1935, in Mattoon, a daughter of Frank and Cecelia (Heinzen) Menting.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School and attended Alverno College, both in Milwaukee. She received a degree in Religious Education from St. Mary of the Lake University in Mundeline, Illinois.

In 1952 Margaret was received into the religious order of the School Sisters of St. Francis. She professed vows in 1954 and while in the order taught school in Illinois, Iowa, Manitowoc and Phlox.

After leaving the order she moved to California where she volunteered operating the Newman Center at Stanford University.

In 1982 she moved to Alaska. Margaret taught Eskimo children in "the bush" for 13 years. She was the Religious Education Coordinator for The Lady of The Angels Catholic Church in Kenai, Alaska for 8 years.

She returned to Phlox in 2011 to be with family. She was a member of and volunteered at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church in Phlox where she organized the purchase and sale of Fair Trade products.

She enjoyed cross stitch and completing Sudoku puzzles.

Survivors include four sisters-in-law, Jane Menting, Evelyn Menting both of Phlox, Eileen Menting, Antigo, Montel Menting, Notre Dame, Indiana; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five sisters, Caroline (William) Watts, Sr. M. Camilla Menting, Mary Ann (Bill) Bauer, Sr. Mary Anthony Menting, and Eleanor in infancy; five brothers, Roman, Matthew, Alvin, Robert, and Harold Menting; a brother-in-law, Delano "Spud" Honzik and a sister-in-law, Marion Menting.

The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann, Rev. Edmundo Siguenza and Deacon Tom Hartman concelebrating.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home and Thursday, September 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

A parish wake service will be held on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Phlox.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Margaret's name may be directed to St. Anthony's Spiritual Center, 300 E. 4th Street, Marathon, WI 54448.
