Michael Jon Black, 78

Michael Black, of Deerbrook, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. He was 78 years old. He was born on May 2, 1941, in Kempster, a son of the late Milo and Marjorie (Hess) Black. He married Judith Follstad on July 24, 1959, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho.

He was a graduate from Elcho High School. In high school he was active in sports, having played basketball, football, and baseball.

Mike was the owner of Black Construction, Inc. from 1961 until his retirement in 2001. The projects included federal and state highways, airport runways, waste stabilization lagoons and land clearing. He was very proud of his loyal employees and the contribution they each made in making Black Construction a success.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho, the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 662, Antigo, National Rifle Association and Bass Lake Country Club.

Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Judith; a son, Mark (Debra) Black of Kempster; three daughters, Mary Lynn Russo of Brevard, NC, Amy (Todd) Joerns of Rhinelander and Carrie (Timothy) Barnes of Menominee Falls; two sons-in-law, Glen Krivoshein of Antigo, Tom Koss of Bryant; 14 grandchildren, Meghan Krivoshein, Keelyn (Travis) Wallenfang, Katie Krivoshein, Adam (Melissa) Black, Heidi (Matthew) Jaeckel, Brady, Trevor, Aaron and Colin Koss, Angelina Russo, Lauren and Anna Joerns, Evelyn and Eleanor Barnes; five great-grandchild, Emmitt and Miles Wallenfang, Luna and Harlow Jaeckel and Sawyer Black; a brother, Gerald (Kay) Black of Green Valley, AZ.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by daughters, Michelle Koss and Colleen Krivoshein; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and William Burman.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 12 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in St. Wencel Catholic Cemetery in Neva.

Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the 12 p.m. Mass.
