Milan A. Bernarde, 90, Wittenberg, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Garden View CBRF, Menasha.
He was born on April 6, 1925 in the town of Plover, the son of the late Frank and Adelia (Bergman) Bernarde. On May 22, 1948, Milan was united in marriage to Alice Drews at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2011.
Milan was a United States Army veteran and was honored to attend the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. The family farmed in the town of Wittenberg for many years and Milan also worked as a mechanic. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching basketball and baseball. Milan enjoyed fishing, hunting, mowing lawn and driving his tractor.
Survivors include three children, Ronda (Richard) Schindhelm, Appleton, Terry Bernarde, Clintonville and Susan Deruchowski, Weyauwega; four grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Lucas, Ryan Schindhelm, Britney Deruchowski and Brady Deruchowski and two great-granddaughters, Norah and Claire.
Milan was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son-in-law, Ted Deruchowski, four brothers, Harold, Raymond, Arnold and Robert and three sisters, Doris Hoffman, Alice Matz and Marcella Hartleben.
The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. Rev. Michael Larson will officiate. Interment will be in the Parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5PM to 8PM at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Saturday from 10AM until the time of service at the church.
