A new fire district has been formed in Langlade County; The White Wolf Fire & Rescue District, according to Chief Emerich of the Wolf River Volunteer Fire Dept. The operational consolidation of the Wolf River Volunteer Fire dept & The White Lake Volunteer Fire dept will allow a single altering and communication process for both departments, reducing dispatch time. The departments have formalized what was previously an automatic aid agreement between the agencies. Chief Tegen of the White Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. believes this is what is best for the communities we serve. With declining numbers of members on each department, this will help build a sold response of not only members, but equipments and resources, to help provide the best outcome for each incident.
The operational consolidation was approved in early August 2024 by the respective communities and was implemented on November 11th, 2024. This agreement will formalize automatic assistance in responding to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, rescue and extation situations, and all other types of incidents. The agreement also encourages the development of cooperative procedures and protocols, including joint purchasing, communications, coordination, training, health & safety, fire prevention, public eduation, fire investigations, and other activities that will enhance the abilities of both fire departments to fulfill their missions.
Given the recruitment and staffing challenges that most volunteer agencies are facing, under this agreement the departments will provide services more effectively and efficiently through the combined efforts of each agency. The departments continue to maintain their respective administrative functions. Patches and insignias for the new district will be considered in the future.
