Posted

A trio of wrestlers from the Antigo Wrestling Club recently competed at the 2025 Northern Plains Regional Championships in Rochester, Minnesota. Olivia Hofrichter notably secured bronze medals in both the Freestyle and Greco divisions. Joseph Stimac and Jordan Pregler also competed against some of the Midwest's best athletes.

Hofrichter's Freestyle Performance

Competing in the Freestyle Junior 145 bracket, Olivia Hofrichter earned a bronze medal despite facing a challenging field that included four nationally ranked wrestlers. Hofrichter, currently ranked 19th at 145 pounds, quickly advanced through her first matches.

In the round of 32, Hofrichter faced Ellesandra Eickhoff of Minnesota. She scored early with a front headlock, rolling through for exposure points and securing a pinfall victory at 1:36 in the first period. Her quarterfinal match against Ezmerelda Fuller of Oklahoma proved to be a harder-fought contest. Fuller initially led, but Hofrichter rallied in the second period with an arm throw and a side headlock, taking a 9-3 lead. Despite a late challenge from Fuller, Hofrichter held on for a hard-fought 9-7 victory.

In the semi-finals, Hofrichter met top-seeded Audrey Rogotzke of Minnesota, who had placed 5th at Fargo Nationals the previous season and was a state champion. Rogotzke dominated the match, winning by technical fall.

Moving into the consolation semi-finals, Hofrichter battled Jenna Tuxhorn of Illinois, a third-place finisher in both Freestyle and Folkstyle this season. Tuxhorn scored first, but Hofrichter responded with a reversal and a 4-point collar crusher, ending the first period with a 5-4 lead. In the second period, Hofrichter again used a collar crusher to secure a pinfall victory at 5:31, advancing to the third-place match.

The bronze medal match pitted Hofrichter against Hayden Bratland of Iowa, an Iowa Folkstyle champion this season and another nationally ranked opponent. The first period was packed with action, ending with Bratland holding a 12-9 lead. However, Hofrichter countered a shot attempt by Bratland, securing a leg and head, and pinned Bratland at 3:47 to claim her first bronze medal.

Hofrichter's Greco Performance

Hofrichter also competed in the Junior Girls 145-pound Greco tournament, earning her second bronze medal. Her first match was against Freestyle champion Eve Skrocki of Iowa, who had also won the US Open. Skrocki quickly won by an 8-0 technical fall.

In her second Greco match, Hofrichter again faced Ezmerelda Fuller. Hofrichter secured a 4-point takedown with a chin whip, followed by an Italian lateral drop for another 4 points, and then pinned Fuller at the 2:04 mark. Hofrichter's final Greco match was against Audrey Rogotzke, who won by technical fall with a score of 12-4.

Other Antigo Wrestlers

Joseph Stimac competed in both Freestyle and Greco at 165 pounds. In Greco, Stimac won a consolation match against Harmon Karmer of South Dakota with an 8-0 technical fall, but ultimately did not place. He dropped his matches in both Freestyle and Greco to strong opponents, including national qualifier Arkail Griffin-Edwards and state qualifier Grant Larson in Freestyle, and Zane Engels and Shannon Hughes in Greco.

Jordan Pregler competed in both Greco and Freestyle at 190 pounds. In Greco, Pregler lost to Brody Hoffman of Wisconsin, who placed 5th, and Tyce Faber of Minnesota, the runner-up. In Freestyle, Pregler was defeated by Noah Stout of Illinois, the 4th place finisher, and Aiden Larson of Illinois.
