Reinhold J. Summ, lifelong area resident, died Saturday, February 16, 2019 under the care of LeRoyer Hospice at the Bay at Eastview. He was 97 years old.
He was born August 6, 1921 in Polar, Wisconsin, son of the late Carl and Meta (Demlow) Summ. He married Virginia Lucht on May 20, 1943 in Junction City, KS, and they raised 5 children together. The couple later divorced.
Mr. Summ was in the US Army from 1942-1945, serving in World War II. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He worked in auto sales and repair. He began his employment at Bryant Garage at the age of 18. He went on to operate Antigo’s Hudson dealership from 1953-1958. After 1958, he ran a garage and car lot at his home until his retirement.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher and church elder.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Karen (Harold) Oldehoeft of Battle Creek, NE, and Carolyn (Doug) Doucette of Antigo; a son, Paul (Mary) Summ of Appleton; 10 grandchildren, Jodi Throdahl of Florida, Steve (Cherilyn) Hoerman of Kronenwetter, Tim Oldehoeft of Battle Creek, NE, Naomi (Todd) Montrose of Meridian, ID, Sarah (Chet) Risenhoover of McCook, NE, Adam (Becky) Oldehoeft of Elkhorn, NE, Scott (Laura) Doucette of Deerbrook, Brian Doucette of St. Anthony, MN, Amy (Andy) Volkmann of Antigo, and Erik (Dr. Stacee) Kessinger of Poulsbo, WA; 3 sisters, Adeline James of Arizona, Grace (Ron) Swanson of Arizona, and Dede Cromer of Antigo; a brother Gene (Barbara) Summ of Madison; a sister in law, Charlotte Summ of Hartford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters, JoAnn Hoerman and Janice Kessinger; 2 sons in law, Dale Hoerman and Gene Kessinger; 8 siblings, Margaret Bradley, Leona Haley, Ervin, Clarence, and Norbert Summ, Ruth Schufeldt, Maxine Summ, and Dana Hayes.
A funeral service will take place at 11:30 AM Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, with lay minister Jeff Nielson officiating. Visitation will be 9:30-11:30 Wednesday at the church. Military rites will be presented by local veterans at the church following the service. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the family in Reinhold’s name may be sent to Strasser-Roller Funeral Home.
