Shirley Joan Koeppel, age 84, of Antigo entered into eternal life Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Mrs. Koeppel was born on July 11, 1930 to the late Rudoph Zaitz and Virginia (Thompson) Zaitz Kreger in Antigo.
On July 23, 1949 she was united in marriage to Joseph Koeppel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Antigo. He survives.
Shirley was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1948. In the midst of raising her familyshe earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from U-W Stevens Point. She retired from the Antigo Unified School District after 13 years of teaching.
Shirley enjoyed crafting, cooking, music, and art. Her greatest passion was her family and she loved attending her grandchildren’s events.
Survivors in addition to her husband Joseph include 6 children, Ken Koeppel of Indianapolis, Kathy (Lee) Drengler, Keith (Janice) Koeppel, Kari (Dave) Carroll, Kandace (Dennis) Elmergreen all of Wausau, Kim (Jim) Tornstrom of Knoxville, TN, 13 grandchildren, Eric and Kurt Drengler, Austin and Hannah Koeppel, Erika, Derek, and Lindsay Carroll, Courtney, Dennis, and Natasha, Elmergreen, Ethan, Joseph, and Collin Tornstrom, 7 great grandchildren and 4 soon to arrive great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a sister Judy Pavek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church. Reverend David Schmidt will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00PM until 8:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Queen of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Shirley’s name.
