Stanley Koss, of Bryant, died Friday, December 22, 2017, at Rosalia Gardens under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 94 years old. He was born on April 27, 1923, in Kewaunee County, a son of Anton and Agnes (Tlachac) Koss. He married Betty Mae Carlson on August 28, 1948, in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2013.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1941 and attended the Antigo Technical College.
He was a member of the United States Marine Corps, First Marine Division from June 1944 to August 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre driving a landing craft vehicle in the invasion of Okinawa and participated in the occupation of China.
Following military service Mr. Koss worked at American Motors in Milwaukee for 6 years as a welder. He and Betty moved to the Town of Peck where they raised their family and owned and operated a dairy farm for many years, retiring in 1984.
Stanley was a member of St. Wencel Catholic Church, Neva, a building he helped construct, the Msgr Conrad Saile Knights of Columbus Council 1002 and Assembly 1214 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Antigo, the Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion Post #3, the Langlade County Voiture 1204, 40 et 8, and the Timberwolves Detachment Marine Corp League, Antigo, the Wisconsin Ice Age Trail Alliance and the Langlade County Bike and Ski Club.
In retirement he enjoyed woodworking and made many grandfather clocks and assorted furniture for his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five daughters, Betsy (Jim) Ahner, Evansville, Jennifer Sasseen, Seattle, WA, Kristine (Mark) Gostisha, Land O Lakes, Karen (Jeff) Braatz, Bryant, Sara (Robert) Arrowood, Antigo; three sons, Tom Koss, Bryant, Richard (Cindy) Koss, Antigo, Andrew Koss, Antigo; 24 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Filbrandt, Madison; two brothers, Stephen (Grace) Koss, Antigo, Anthony (Doris) Koss, Harvard, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Marion Koss, Deerbrook.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Michelle Koss, a son-in-law, William Sasseen, a great-grandson; four sisters, Blanche (Phil) Kafka, Mary (Joe, Sr.) Novak, Edna (John) Piela, and Juliana Koss; a brother, Vernon Koss, a brother-in-law, Jerome Filbrandt,
The funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Wencel Catholic Church, with Rev. David Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place in the parish Cemetery where Antigo Veterans will conduct military honors.
Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
A parish wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday and the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday all at the funeral home.
