A 48-27 victory over Two Rivers, who at the time was the 9th ranked team in Division Two, as well as a victory over 10th ranked in Division Two Campbellsport (41-33) and a victory over Nicolet (48-33) paved the way for a third-place finish. A hotly contested 38-33 loss to D.C. Everest was all that kept Antigo from a second-place finish. Neenah was able to secure the team title going undefeated on the day.
Top individual performers included Sophomore Logan Edwards at 126 pounds, who contributed four victories versus only one defeat. Logan’s victories include 3 falls. Logan’s only defeat was to the 10th ranked wrestler in Division One at 126, Drake Hayward.
12th ranked Division 1 wrestler Ben Stimac at 138 pounds was also 4-1 on the day. Ben was able to pin two of his opponents, and also had decision win over Demetrio Covarrubius of DC Everest, who has an honorable mention ranking for Division 1. Ben’s only loss was to 2nd ranked Division 2 wrestler Cody Holmes via decision.
Josh Heuss collected 3 wins via pinfall and a technical fall on his way to going 4-1. His only loss was a decision.
Korbin Krueger found himself victorious four times including two pinfalls. He ended the day with only one loss.
Collinn Eldridge, on paper, had the toughest matchups of the tournament. He dropped a match to Parker Keckeisen of Nicolet, the top ranked wrestler in Division 1. He later matched up with the 7th ranked wrestler in Division 1, Isaiah McCormick of Neenah, whom he dominated and controlled to an impressive 15-5 major decision. Collinn ended the day 4-1, including a fall.
Up next for the Antigo wrestling team is a dual meet at Mosinee on December 13th. Junior Varsity starts at 6pm, and Varsity at 7pm.
Next weekend Antigo competes at the Shawano Holiday on Saturday, the 15th. Teams scheduled to appear include former Wisconsin Valley Conference foes Marshfield and Wausau East, as well as Brillion, Clintonville/Marion, Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas, Mosinee, Peshtigo, Shawano and Xavier.
