Upcoming hunter education classes in the local area will provide young and new hunters an opportunity to become certified in hunter education and bow hunter education.

Conservation Warden Tim Otto of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the lead instructor of the class, says all hunters born after 1973 are required to pass a hunter education class.

“Bow hunter education is not required to hunt in Wisconsin,” Otto said. “But some states do require this for archery hunting in their states.”

Hunter Education Schedule

The regular hunter education class will be held at the Antigo Bow Club, 1112 Mendlik Ave., Antigo, on these dates:

  • April 4 from 4:30 – 8 PM
  • April 5 from 5 – 8 PM
  • April 8 from 9 AM – 3 PM

The cost for this class is $10.

Combined Hunter & Bow Hunter Education Class

Otto says a bow hunter education class will be held in conjunction with this hunter education class slated for April 9 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. To be eligible for this class, attendance in a hunter education class is a prerequisite. The bow hunter class is also $10.

“The bow hunter education class is taught as a companion to the hunter education class, which allows it to be taught in less time than normal, “Otto said. “As a stand-alone class, it would be at least 10 hours.”

How to Register – In Person or by Telephone

Anyone interested in these classes may stop at the Antigo Department of Natural Resources office (223 E. Steinfest Road) from 11 AM to 2 PM Monday through Friday to register, submit payment, and receive classroom materials.
