ANTIGO – Sheila Wienke’s Rummage Sale for a Reason, held today and tomorrow, is not your typical “get rid of the stuff piling up in our garage” kind of yard sale. Wienke plans to use the money generated by her Thursday and Friday outings to help adopt a group of children from South America.

Wienke has been in contact with adoption services and will eventually be providing a home to four young siblings from Colombia. With an estimated cost of nearly $50,000 dollars involved in the adoption process, the compassionate rummage sale host knows all too well how daunting the procedure can actually be.

“We’ve learned that when it comes to adoption, the cost will always be there,” Wienke said. “It is just one of those things that come with it.”

Experienced in adopting on an international scale, Wienke had previously gone through the extensive procedure to adopt three children from Ethiopia. The caring woman from Antigo is now becoming a pro at helping children from around the world find a home, as this week’s two-day sale marks her fourth such fundraising rummage sale for adoption fees.

People from around the community have donated to Wienke’s inventory of rummaged items. In addition to adoption fees and service costs, revenue generated from the sale will help with travel expenses to and from Colombia. Wienke hopes to have the four children home by the end of 2016.

“There are a lot of children out there that need homes and we as a community need to do a better job of providing [for them],” Wienke said in closing.

The sale is held at 330 Anderson Drive, located off S. Virginia St. from Freiberger Ave., on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
