Antigo wrestling has demonstrated significant strength across all levels over the past week, headlined by a runner-up team finish in the Great Northern Conference (GNC) and a historic individual gold medal performance.

High School: Conference Success & Team Milestones

Antigo finished the GNC dual season with a strong 5-1 record, securing second place behind undefeated Merrill. They maintained this momentum into the GNC Tournament, again finishing as team runner-up.

  • Conference Champions: * Jack Sundermeyer (138 lbs): Achieved his first career conference title with a "flawless" 2-0 day, outscoring opponents 16-0 and winning both matches by pinfall before the third period.
    • Joseph Stimac (157 lbs): Also earned his first title, securing pins in both his matches, including a championship-clinching cradle at 2:50.
  • Historic Gold: Senior Olivia Hofrichter (152 lbs) won the first-ever female conference championship for Antigo at the inaugural Super Conference Tournament. She dominated the finals with an 18-2 technical fall over the state's 14th-ranked wrestler, moving her season record to 39-2.
  • All-Conference Honors: In total, seven wrestlers earned all-conference status, including runners-up Logan DesJarlais (106 lbs) and Michael Hofrichter (150 lbs), and third-place finishers Ezra Dufour (120 lbs), Owen Medo (144 lbs), and Jordan Pregler (190 lbs).

Youth Level: Dominating the Mats

The Antigo Wrestling Club (AWC) saw massive participation and success at multiple regional tournaments, including events in Wausau, Merrill, and Marshfield.

  • Wausau West Tournament: A standout team effort with 43 wrestlers competing, resulting in 15 champions and 8 runners-up. Undefeated (3-0) champions included Colt Cross, Shane Korbisch, Tate Marmes, Nash McCann, Grant Cross, and Wyatt Korbisch.
  • Queen of the Mat: Elia Peterson claimed a championship with a perfect 4-0 record, while Reagan Stolzman finished as a runner-up.
  • Merrill Ian Skaar Memorial: AWC brought home 5 gold medals, led by Shane Korbisch and Wyatt Korbisch.
  • Other Champions: Baylor Nelson went 3-0 to win at Auburndale, and Liam Kuenzli secured a title at Marinette.

  • Conference Standing: Antigo High School finished the regular season with a 5-1 dual record, securing 2nd place in the Great Northern Conference.

  • GNC Tournament Performance: The team earned a runner-up finish at the conference tournament, bolstered by 7 All-Conference wrestlers.

  • Olivia Hofrichter’s Record: With her gold medal at the Super Conference Tournament, Hofrichter improved to 39-2 on the season. She is currently the #2 ranked wrestler in the state at 152 lbs.

  • Technical Superiority: In the conference finals, Hofrichter defeated the state's #14 ranked wrestler via an 18-2 technical fall, scoring 13 points in the first period alone.

  • Youth Program Reach: The Antigo Wrestling Club (AWC) sent 43 wrestlers to the Wausau West tournament alone, where they achieved a 35% championship rate (15 champions out of 43 entries).

  • Perfect Youth Marks: Several youth wrestlers, including Shane Korbisch and Tate Marmes, secured multiple tournament titles in a single week by winning at both Wausau and Merrill.
