Antigo Wrestling Highlight Report

Posted

The Antigo Wrestling program has enjoyed a period of significant success across its youth, boys' varsity, and girls' varsity divisions, highlighted by dominant individual tournament performances and strong team showings.

Girls Varsity: Hofrichter and Thunder Lead the Way

Senior Olivia Hofrichter has been a dominant force for the Antigo girls' team. At the 2026 Shiocton Girls Clausen Classic, Hofrichter, ranked #2 at 152 pounds, captured first place by pinning all five of her opponents in the first round. Her path to the title included a 1:02 pin over #7 Jasmine Hebert in the finals. Remarkably, she spent a total of only 5 minutes and 29 seconds on the mat during the entire tournament.

This followed another podium finish at the Northern Badger Wrestling Classic, where Hofrichter secured a runner-up finish at 145 pounds. The finals featured a high-stakes rematch of last year's state finals against Layla Risler, a matchup between two nationally ranked individuals.

Other notable girls’ varsity performances include:

  • Summer Thunder (126 lbs): Reached the semifinals at Northern Badger before an injury ended her day, resulting in a sixth-place finish.
  • Trinity Ward (126/132 lbs): Finished 17th at Shiocton with three victories, including a 16-second pin in her final match. She also earned a pinfall victory at the Northern Badger Classic.

Boys Varsity: Stimac and DesJarlais Podium at Northern Badger

The Antigo boys' varsity team competed at the prestigious 40th Annual Northern Badger Wrestling Classic, finishing with two wrestlers on the podium.

  • Joseph Stimac (165 lbs): The sophomore earned 11th place with four victories. His day was highlighted by a 13-1 major decision over 12th-ranked Alvin Peterson and a 5-3 decision win in the 11th-place match.
  • Keagan DesJarlais (150 lbs): The freshman also secured 11th place, utilizing his signature stack maneuver to record three separate pinfall victories during the tournament.

Just missing the podium was Levi Peterson, who fought back through the consolation bracket with two pinfall victories—one via a cradle and another from a front headlock scramble—to reach the podium round.

Youth Wrestling: Antigo Wrestling Club Takes Third in Marathon

The future of the program looks bright as the Antigo Wrestling Club youth team finished in third place at the Boys and Girls Marathon Match-Up. Three youth wrestlers were crowned champions:

  • Colt Cross (Pre-K/K): Earned 1st place with two forfeits and a 35-second pin.
  • Jed Medo (1st-2nd): Captured 1st place with a decision and two major decisions.
  • Lilly Franklin (Girls 3rd-4th): Secured 1st place with a technical fall and a fall.

The youth team also boasted seven runner-up finishes: Baylor Nelson, Charlie Majewski, Grant Cross, Levi Anderson, Jayce Zarda, Dulce Castillo, and Elia Peterson.

Looking Ahead

The Antigo girls' team returns to action at DC Everest High School for a WVC/GNC event. Meanwhile, the boys' varsity team will host a home triangular at the Sheldon Fieldhouse against Lakeland and Suring. This home event will include youth wrestler recognition and an additional surprise announcement.
