Donald R. Johnson, 67

Donald R. Johnson of Aniwa, passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2015 at the age of 67.
Donald was born on January 16, 1948 in Antigo, WI to Melvin and Donna (Smith) Johnson. His family later moved to Rhinelander where he lived, and pursued his education. Don graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1966. Due to the draft, Don chose to enlist in the military where he served in the Army from March 11, 1968 through October 11, 1970. During this time he served two tours in Vietnam and gave his all. After his return from duty, he married Vicki Gravitter. The couple lived in Pearson, where they raised their three children Katia, Josiah, and Andrew. Don was very proud of his children and always felt that his greatest accomplishments were evident in their individual successes.
In his early years, Don worked for Johnson Brothers Construction which was family owned/operated in Rhinelander. Eventually his carpentry skills led him to the Wisconsin Laborer’s Union out of Wausau. He worked in the paper mills throughout central Wisconsin, until he retired in 2001. He did return to Johnson Brother’s Construction when his son re-established the family business.
Donald was a devoted grandfather. He never missed a choir concert, dance recital, piano recital, Christmas program, birthday party or any other activity. His greatest joy in life was his time with Trinity, Whitley, Adeline, Jacob, Annaliese, Karina, Aaryan and Ezra. He will be greatly missed.
Through his experiences in Vietnam, Donald gave his life to Christ and pursued his walk with the Lord by sharing words of encouragement and compassion for others. His legacy will be continued through those he touched and especially remembered through his children and grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his children Katia (Robert) Johnson-Shelley, Josiah (Amy) Johnson, and Andrew (Amber) Johnson; His grandchildren, Trinity, Whitley, Adeline, Jacob, Annaliese, Karina, Aaryan, and Ezra. His siblings: Sue Ann Johnson, Mathew Johnson, Keith Johnson, Kyle (Becky) Johnson all of Rhinelander and Darlene (Al) Ison of Escanaba, MI, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceeded in death by his parents, brothers Douglas, Jeffery, and Randall Johnson, and sisters Jennie Ison and Jeanne Cox.
