Elaine M. Meyer, 90

Elaine M. Meyer, of Antigo, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Homme Home in Wittenberg. She was 90 years old. She was born on May 11, 1925 in Manawa, a daughter of the late Louis and Lillian (Theisen) Braun. She married Omer Meyer on October 25, 1948 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2008.

As the oldest of eight, she helped on the family farm as a child. Elaine attended St. John Grade School and graduated from Antigo High School in 1943.

After graduation she worked at the aircraft plant, J.I. Case, in Racine as a production inspector which included testing rivets on World War II bomber plane wings. She then attended St. Mary’s College of Nursing in Milwaukee graduating in 1947.

She worked at Langlade Memorial Hospital and was also a private care nurse. Following marriage she was foremost a wife, mother and homemaker who also assisted her husband in managing the White Owl Mink Ranch. She helped in raising Ginseng and with the production of maple syrup at their home on County Road F.

Elaine was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She was an excellent knitter, enjoyed gardening, bird watching and making wine. In her retirement she loved to travel and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a great cook and will be remembered most for her quiet and gentle love and support for her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Bailey (David Stickney) of Antigo and Tracy (Richard) Wild of Antigo; three sons, Michael (Mary) Meyer of Yorkville, IL, Jeff Meyer of Antigo and Patrick (Patricia) Meyer of Polar; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Phyllis Mattek of Neva, Margaret Flamond of Gainesville, FL, Patricia Wagner of Marquette, MI and Carol (Tom) Vanderveldon of Plains, MT; and a brother, Ray (Dorothy) Braun of Antigo.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a grandson in infancy; a sister, and Alice Schroeder; and a brother, Jim Braun and son-in-law, Tim Bailey.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Entombment will take place in Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church in Hoffmann Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Catholic Church.
