AHS Student Athlete of the Week
Payton Bunnell – Northern Edge Girls Hockey
“Payton has almost finished her third year playing varsity hockey for the Northern Edge. In her three seasons she has not missed a single varsity game, and has been a top contributor on the ice for the Edge as well.
As a junior, this season she was unanimously chosen by her teammates and coaching staff to take on the role of captain. She has met every single expectation we had for her. She has proven to be an exceptional leader as well as a positive role model for every member of the team.
Last week, we challenged Payton to ‘coach’ for a game. She created the line combinations as well as directed all changes from the bench. She motivated the team in such a way that we came away with a 9-2 victory with each line combination contributing three goals. Notably, we have not changed up her line assignments since.
Our motto all season long has been: ‘Poor teams, no one leads. Good teams, coaches lead. Exceptional teams, players lead.’ Payton brings this motto to the rink every single day. I could not be more proud of what she has accomplished this season.”
