Thomas “Whitey” Schmidt, 64
Thomas Schmidt, “Whitey” of Phlox, died Monday, May 29, 2017 at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. He was 64 years old. He was born on December 26, 1952 in Antigo, a son of Norbert and Germaine (Thomas) Schmidt. He married Diane Fuller on July 9, 1977 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo. The couple later divorced.
He was raised in Phlox and attended St. Joseph Parochial grade school and Antigo High School. As a young man he worked for Schultz Creamery in Phlox.
Whitey worked as a mechanic for Mortenson Trucking. For many years he drove truck, first for Mortenson Trucking and later for Schumitsch Seed.
He enjoyed shooting pool, boating, camping, hunting and fishing, but most of all valued time spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Michael Schmidt and fiancee Tonia Powell, Antigo; two daughters, Tracy Edblom and Doug Kloes, Antigo, Christina (Clayton) Walrath, Deerbrook; nine grandchildren Quentin and Kaiden Schmidt, Tyler Beyer, Bryanna Edblom, Kendal Kloes, Callie and Carsyn Walrath, Cody and Colton Powell; three sisters, Mary Ann (Paul) Waldvogel, Aniwa, Laura (Larry) Sippl, Aniwa, Cindy (Randy) Pecha, Mattoon; a brother, Richard Schmidt, Birnamwood; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Schmidt, Phlox; many nieces and nephews; and his former wife Diane.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Schmidt.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday June 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church in Phlox with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.
A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
