Kim Rice Wingo, 60 of Anthony, FL, passed away on Sunday, August 27th at the Estelle’s Hospice House. Kim was born in Antigo, WI on May 25, 1957. Kim spent most of her career as a jockey at Waterford Park and other race tracks along the northeast. In 1975, she became the most successful woman jockey in the nation, setting the world record for most races won in a year by a female rider. Kim held this record for many years. After marrying her late husband in 1981, she started a family and they spent their winters training horses in FL until finally planting their roots and building the family farm, Wings Ranch in 1990. Her career evolved from jockey into a well-respected breeze rider for the 2 year old training sales around the country. In her time as a breeze rider, she broke and worked many world class horses such as “Thunder Gulch” and ” Yes Its True.” Kim and Bobby ran the family farm for over 25 years, training and pin hooking horses in Anthony, FL while raising their two sons, Tanner and Chance. Kim is preceded in death by her late husband, Bobby Wingo of 28 years and father Don Rice. She is survived by her two sons, Tanner Wingo and wife Maria of Anthony, FL and Chance Wingo of Miami Beach, FL; her mother Maxine Rice of Anthony, FL; sister, Paula Williams of Idaho; brother Brett Rice of Gainesville, FL; sister Tori Hoppel of Anthony, FL; sister Kitty Cheeks of Ocala, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
